Hey guys! Here we are approaching the summer! We are already enjoying this gorgeous weather and the fun it will bring. You also begin to notice everyone is in a better mood! Ha! The summer time allows us to settle back, relax, and take some time away from our regular schedules. We like to think of it as a time to feel refreshed and an opportunity to take a little extra care of ourselves. Now don’t think we aren’t forgetting all about happy hours with our wine or our summer nights out dining and dancing! So to feel relaxed and refreshed this season we are trying some new exercises or changing up a workout routine that may target some different muscles groups, eating at least one clean meal a day and/or finding something new and cute to wear that shows off our bodies that we’ve worked so hard on since winter time! LOL So during the next few weeks we will be sharing some tips to help make you LOOK and FEEL your summer BEST.
To kick this summer series off , our first segment is focused on your UPPER BODY and your POSTURE. These two work together in our book! If you have a toned and strong upper body then this automatically helps you with your posture by keeping those shoulders pulled down and back. Walking around with nice toned shoulders makes you appear taller as well..correcting bad posture adds inches! Say NO to the summer slouch and say YES to tank top season!
We are showing below a few of our upper body toning moves that will enhance your posture as well as sculpt your arms and shoulders. Using your body weight can build strength and tone those muscles. This is why yoga is so powerful in achieving that sculpted and toned look. This is Monica’s wheelhouse!
Did you know YOGA is not only great for toning but also for stretching and elongating the body? If you enjoy your yoga time or you’re new to it and just want to give some yoga a try, below are a few moves that will help build your posture and tone the upper body in no time ..and by the way these moves are for all yoga levels.
Our top 5 !
- KNEELING DANCER – Start in table top position. Shoulders over wrists and knees under hips, then reach the right hand around for the left foot and breathe into the twist as the shoulder releases and opens. Repeat on the opposite side.
- CLASP HANDS LOCUST – Begin on your stomach as you reach behind for your hands and clasp them together. Inhale as you lift the heart and shoulders reaching back. The hips stay grounded, belly stays pulled in as you lift the legs off the floor. Each time resting the forehead back on the ground toes go out to the side and forehead down. Repeat on the other side.
- LOW LUNGE WITH A TWIST – Start in pigeon pose on the ground with your right knee bent and reach your left arm around to catch your left foot in the hand. Open the hips as well as releasing the left shoulder. Repeat on the opposite side.
- ROLLING TWIST – Begin on your stomach with arms extended out to a T formation. Then begin to roll over on your right shoulder clasping your left hand behind with the right. Rolling onto the right shoulder to open it deeper with each breathe. The hips will stack and if you feel comfortable here begin to bring the left knee along to go deeper.
Begin in Warrior 1 pose, with your back foot on a 45 degree turn out and front foot forward. Align your hips forward with arms shoulder width apart overhead. Then, begin to clasp your hands behind your back as you exhale forward bringing the nose close to the knee and hands reaching forward to the front of the room. Opening the shoulders and lengthening the spine. This will help your posture! Stay consistent in your practice!
If you prefer a set of weights for your toning and strength sesh add this shoulder press to your upper body regimen . This is one of our favorites! Begin with a set of 5lb -10lb dumbells in each hand forming a goal post position at your shoulders. Press up and extend your arms over your head and lower back down. Repeat. Complete at least 2 sets of 12 three to four times a week. Feel the burn ladies….
If you stick to some of these quick and easy moves at least two to three times a week you will notice a change in your upper body in no time. Walk around tall and proud this summer wherever you go! Rock your toned upper body in any cute tank top or sleeveless top or dress! We are wearing two different style dresses from Express in this picture below. Express has cute, budget friendly sleeveless or off the shoulder dresses and rompers most anytime of the year. This is just one of our favorite stores that we like to shop.
